It is called infantile because those who contract the disease are specially children between 5 and 10 years old. It is a very infectious disease, but it is controlled through vaccination. It affects the central nervous system. In its acute form, it causes inflammation of the spinal cord and brain motor neurons, leading to paralysis, muscular atrophy, and often deformity.
